CBD Drinks Guide

By now, you’ve probably heard of CBD. If you haven’t tried it yet, someone you know probably has, and somebody else probably swears by it as part of their daily routine. In fact, 1 in 2 members of Gen Z are reported to have tried a CBD drink at some point.

But when it comes to CBD, there’s still some confusion. We’ve gathered all of the information you could possibly need about CBD drinks in one place, to answer all the questions you might have before you get stuck into one yourself.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol - more commonly known as CBD - is a non-psychoactive chemical compound found in hemp plants. It gets to work in the body by interacting with the endocannabinoid system, a network of cells and neuroreceptors that help regulate your mood, energy, and immune system. It is believed to have been first used medicinally for thousands of years.

Being a soothing compound, many people wrongly assume that CBD is an addictive substance, but CBD doesn't contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive ingredient found in hemp that can get you high.  This also means that CBD won’t show up on a drug test, as long as you’re buying from reliable and trustworthy brands. There are some unregulated CBD products out there which contain THC and would show up, but at TRIP all our CBD oils are third party lab tested to ensure they are of the highest quality and purity.

What are CBD drinks?

CBD drinks are beverages infused with CBD: it’s as simple as that! They’re a convenient and delicious way to get your daily dose of calm, whether that’s grabbing a can after the gym or popping one in the fridge to replace your evening glass of wine. From AM to PM, CBD drinks can be a useful way to relax, both mixed into cocktails or enjoyed as they are. In fact, if you are looking for an alcohol alternative to help you feel more like your best self, CBD drinks might be a great option for you.

Stress-free sipping? We’ll drink to that!

How long does a CBD drink take to work?

Much like alcohol or caffeine, the time it takes to feel the effects of a CBD drink varies for everyone. Generally CBD gets to work in as little as fifteen minutes, but it can depend on things such as metabolism, diet, weight, and genetics. For those new to CBD, we’d recommend getting started with a slightly lower dose and gradually increasing over time. Fortunately, TRIP drinks have 15mg of CBD each, so they’re the perfect way to get started!

What are the benefits?

Because CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for keeping the body in balance, many people are turning to CBD products as a possible remedy ‘for various mental health issues’. While more research needs to be conducted to determine all potential benefits of CBD, and it’s still always a good idea to check with your doctor before starting a new daily routine, what’s already known about the benefits of CBD is promising.

Some studies have suggested that taking CBD can help to ‘soothe anxiety’. This research, carried out on individuals with social anxiety disorder, revealed that ‘CBD significantly reduced their anxiety and discomfort’.

A different study, published in the Journal of Pain Research, reported that ‘CBD may help reduce chronic pain by affecting endocannabinoid receptor activity’.

A third possible benefit of adding CBD into your daily routine is that it can improve sleep and allow for a better night of rest. Research has suggested that CBD oil has the potential to be an effective solution for improving the quantity and quality of sleep. A study of the effects of CBD on sleep at the University of Colorado reported that 66.7% of test subjects saw ‘an improvement to their sleep’ after using CBD.

While more research needs to be conducted to determine all potential benefits of CBD, and it’s still always a good idea to check with your doctor before starting a new daily routine, what’s already known about CBD drinks is very promising

Are they legal in the UK?

CBD is completely legal in the UK. That’s why it’s available in health stores and supermarkets nationwide!

Can you mix them with alcohol?

Although CBD Drinks are delicious all by themselves, they also taste delicious as part of CBD cocktails. TRIP and tequila is a personal favourite of ours, but it’s a great mixer for all sorts of different spirits.

However, if you don’t fancy drinking (and the hangxiety that sometimes follows) we have the perfect mocktail recipes to help you with regret-free relaxing. Serve both over ice!

‘Life’s A Peach’

  • 1 can of TRIP Peach Ginger
  • A spoonful of honey
  • 25ml lemon juice
  • Apple slice to garnish

‘Elderflower Spritz’

  • 1 can of TRIP Elderflower Mint
  • 35ml grapefruit juice,
  • 15ml lime juice
  • Squeeze of agave
  • Grapefruit twist to garnish

Can you mix CBD with coffee?

Most people start their morning with a cup of coffee during breakfast or on the way to work. However, while caffeine is great for getting you charged up for the day, it can leave you with more energy that you know what to do with.

The solution? CBD coffee. Although there are other ways of combining the two, the best way to make sure your coffee provides a moment of calm is with a TRIP Cold Brew, a delicious CBD-infused coffee sourced from Guatemala and brewed in East London. Unlike traditional hot coffees, cold brew is produced by steeping grounds in cold water for up to twenty-four hours, resulting in a smoother flavour.

Combining caffeine and CBD might seem contradictory at first, but CBD’s relaxing properties perfectly balance out the caffeine. Served over ice, our cold brew coffee will keep you cool, calm, and collected on hot days, while still giving you the mood boost you need. Get creative and add your favourite milk or enjoy it all by itself: your usual caffeine kick, now jitter-free.

How many CBD drinks can I have in one day?

As we mentioned above, CBD consumption can vary based on what you use it for, how much you take, and which method you prefer to take it. It also varies person to person, since dosage is a really personal thing, and CBD will affect everyone differently. However, it is worth noting that the FSA recommends no more than 70mg of CBD a day unless under medical direction.

Summary

CBD isn’t just having a moment, it’s here to stay. Why? Because it’s easy to take, easy to incorporate into your routine, and for many people can have some serious physical and mental benefits.
