The CBD industry is ‘having its moment’, and with good reason! We’re all searching for that magic ingredient to become superhuman, to be ‘on’ all the time, but we are more aware than ever about just how important our mental and physical health is.

There are many ways in which we can improve our well-being, reduce stress and anxiety, get those all important hours of shut eye and feel, well, human... and no big surprises for our favourite way to do so. We find calm in everyday chaos with the support of our CBD wellness products, CBD drinks and CBD oils. Here’s what you need to know…

CBD 101: what is it, will it get you high and is it legal?

CBD stands for cannabidiol. It’s one of a range of cannabinoids found in the hemp plant, part of the cannabis family. Unlike THC, CBD won’t get you high and it’s legal here in the UK, so it can help you to find your calm. There’s no restrictions about when you can take it in terms of at work or while you’re driving. It’s incredibly tailored to your personal experience and you don’t need to worry about getting drowsy or having a psychoactive impact or overdosing - there’s no upper limit of what you can take so it’s up to you. Give it a go, take a note of how you feel, take it consistently, particularly with CBD oils especially if you’re using it for something specific. You’re empowered as an individual to really respond to your body’s needs and use it how it works best for you.

UNWIND AND RESET: when is CBD taken and how can it be incorporated into daily life?

I like to take CBD oil first thing in the morning, after coffee but before I open my inbox. For me it really helps my mind feel slightly calmer, ready to deal with whatever the day throws at me. Other people (myself included), enjoy the drinks throughout the day; the drink's ability to calm some of those anxious thoughts can be amazing when you are distracted at work, overwhelmed or looking to reset which can refresh productivity and creativity throughout the day. They’re obviously also an amazing option as an alcohol alternative if you’re looking to take the edge off and unwind in the evenings. It’s really important for us to be considering new ways of finding that unwind and reset.

TOP TIPS FOR FIRST TIMERS: always read the label, especially when buying CBD internationally as it may contain THC (the psychoactive compound that will get you high!).

When you’re looking to try a CBD product for the first time, a couple of things I recommend are to check the packaging says ‘no THC’. This is particularly relevant if you are buying products internationally, for example in the US where THC might be legal and the regulations can be different in certain areas. The other thing I like to do when comparing formats, whether it’s skincare to oils, to food and drink is try and look at the milligrams of CBD I’m getting in a dose or in a serving because some people talk in different terminologies - concentrations or other phraseology - which can make it a little bit more tricky to compare products. At Trip we always stick to referring to the amount of CBD per serving or per product so you can really make that like for like comparison, monitor how you’re feeling and how much you’re having.
